Книга бъет рекорды популярности – она уже стала бестселлером Амазона в категории книг о России:

Вчерашняя презентация, похоже, стала маленьким политическим землетрясением в Вашингтоне.

Karen Dawisha’s brilliant Putin’s Kleptocracy provides an answer, describing how Putin got to power, the cabal he brought with him, the billions they have looted, and his plan to restore the Greater Russia.

Russian journalists wrote part of this story when the Russian media was still free. “Many of them died for this story, and their work has largely been scrubbed from the Internet, and even from Russian libraries,” Dawisha says. “But some of that work remains.”

Date: 2014-10-03 04:14 am (UTC)Давиша упоминает автора первой биографии Путина, вышедшей в 1998 в однлй питерской газете - "Путин незаконно стал директором ФСБ". Там упоминалось что при Собчаке Путин выдавал незаконные разрешения на игорный бизнес, что по поводу комиссии Салье Путин признал нарушения, но никто наказан не был. Главреда вызвал на разговор куратор из ФСБ, газету закрыли, автора (Анатолий Левин-Уткин) убили (следствие не изучало версию связи с журналистикой).
Этот недоизученный период в Спб надо продолжать изучать, не забывая про роль таеих г-д как Чубайс (соавтор проекта свободной экономисеской зоны в Питере того времени или нынешний оппозиционер Кох
